This Could Never Happen In New York

The door bell rang and there was our lovely Hindu neighbor holding a basket of food. The day before we tried to get our friend the maid and tell her not to come but got no answer so we had to hang a note out for her and tell her that we were sick. Our neighbor said she saw the note and here she was with a late breakfast for us.
One pot was puffy little cakes of grain and the other
A tempting sauce with interesting seeds. We ladled it over the little white cakes. Our neighbor said that it would make us well. It did! We had been sick a number of days and were at the point where we needed strength and we got it from this wonderful Indian food.
Chennai is a city of 10 or 12 million, we don't think anyone really knows for sure, but we got home town care yesterday. This could never happen in New York.
