Auto Rickshaws

Up in front is a guy squeezed next to the driver

On a seat for two are these guys in back, but Iam there too taking the picture

Up ahead and left sporting school bus yellow is a tiny auto like the one we are riding. School bus yellow is actually a perfect description because one day in front of a school we saw eight children get out of one auto rickshaw.

Missionary Hair Cut

Do women go to barber shops in India? We don't know know but the man invited me in because there was air conditioning and it was getting hot. So much for balmy breezes of yesterday. So I was photog for this moment. You may not know the exchange rate but the 50.00 rupees you see on the sign figures out to be "shave and a hair cut, two bits." If you are old enough you will remember this little jingle came at the end of a song and dance. Oh, and when it is all over the hair gets brushed off with a twirling towel and you sit back down for a marvelous head massage.

A Choice View

Last night just as the sun went down our neighbor's rooftop became a dance theatre. The high part in the middle was the backdrop and the audience clustered on folding chairs near the tallest palms. Motion drew our attention to the front half of the roof and we saw the best show as dancers warmed up for their acts. The terrorist forced a major festival to cancel this week, but the arts danced atop this block of India.

Weather In India Is A Big Deal!

We will start with today. It was the third day of absolutely balmy, breeze delight. We were with a local family last night and asked that if this weather was the "good" weather how long would it last. They thought about two weeks or maybe even until the end of December. After that the weather would day by day get hotter and hotter until in March it would be hot. In June they told us that we should expected the weather to be impossibly hot. We wondered how long the really, really bad weather would last and were told until August.
So we are loving the gentle breeze and the bit of cool ocean air. It makes you think that you are at the beach in Del Mar. You are fifteen years old, it is five in the afternoon, you and your friends arrived at ten that morning. Now the mist is blowing in off the Pacific and in a few minutes your ride home, mom, will arrive. Tomorrow you may do that same thing and it will be a great summer. Next year you will get a summer job, but for now you you have time to think and dream.
